Hay fever is caused by allergens in the air. These may range from pollens from trees, grass and weeds to year-round molds, dust mites, and pet dander. There are medical treatments to relieve the symptoms of a hay fever as runny nose and watery eyes. However, hay fever generally defies a quick cure. Usually an antihistamine regimen is recommended along with an avoidance of allergens. One way to keep allergens at bay is to install exhaust fans in the kitchen and the bathroom. These are areas that witness a build up of molds because of their high moisture content. When this moisture lingers, instead of drying up, it quickly degenerates into allergy causing mold.

Molds and hay fever

Molds are parasitic microorganisms that appear as black, white or multicolored stain or fuzz. Molds thrive in a moist environment as near the kitchen sink and bathroom. Inhaling or touching mold may trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. This includes hay fever type symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, red, watery eyes, and skin rash or dermatitis. Mold irritates the eyes, skin, nose, throat and lungs of allergy prone individuals. Remember that one in every three persons worldwide is affected by mold and one in ten persons suffers a severe reaction.

Install an exhaust fan

Mold is invariably an indication of a moisture retention problem. The best way to avoid potential health problems is to turn on the exhaust fan in the bathroom while showering and bathing; and in the kitchen while cooking or cleaning dishes. Exhaust fans remove excess humidity from the air and dry out condensation. Exhaust fans thus control dampness, which usually appears as water stains on ceilings, walls and floors. Exhaust fans should be strategically installed to eliminate mold growth and deter multiplication of allergens. Exhaust fans can be used throughout the year to dry out damp spots. Exhaust fans are now a common response in a majority of households to lower humidity levels. Thus exhaust fans work as an excellent ventilating source to maintain the indoor atmosphere and keep it moisture-free.

Summary

Installing exhaust fans is a common tactic to keep hay fever allergens in check. Exhaust fans have proved to be efficacious at removing dampness and controlling moisture levels in the house; thereby reducing or eliminating a host of hay fever allergens.
